Common questions
Why choose a deliberately limited tool?
Because the limit is the guarantee. NotebookLM does not wander to the open web unless asked to find sources, so nothing arrives from model imagination and every claim traces to a passage you can click. For diligence reading, course material and any corpus where provenance matters, that discipline beats breadth, and the wrong documents at least produce checkably wrong answers.
What does the closed world cost?
Everything outside it. General knowledge beyond the corpus gets nothing, discovery belongs to answer engines and assistants, and a curated corpus embeds its curator's blind spots: what you never loaded, it will never surface, and it cannot tell you what is missing. It is also a comprehension tool rather than a drafting environment; the writing happens elsewhere, ChatGPT included.
