Common questions
Can a small team buy Cody at all?
Not any more. The free and individual tiers were retired, the buying motion is enterprise, and developers wanting a personal agent were pointed at a separate product line. Small teams and single-repo projects get most of the value from mainstream assistants, Claude Code among them, at a fraction of the process; Cody's case begins where codebase scale defeats them.
Do the two overlap on day-to-day coding?
Partially. Both will help change code, but the working models differ: Claude Code takes a brief, edits across files, runs commands and tests and iterates until they pass, while Cody grounds answers, completions and edits in how code connects across the whole estate. The split is delegation versus navigation, and which you are short of decides the day.
Which suits a single large monolith?
Claude Code, in most cases. Its agent works whatever repository the terminal can reach, and a monolith does not need cross-repo context to be navigable.
