Shopify
Shopify is the commerce platform the AI features sit inside: storefront, checkout, payments, inventory and orders, with the shop itself as the product rather than an add-on to a website builder. It is the default answer for selling online without running infrastructure.
The AI arrives as two things. Shopify Magic generates the writing a store constantly needs, from product descriptions to email subject lines, in the admin where the product already is. Sidekick is the assistant on top of the store's own data, taking instructions like segmenting customers or adjusting a discount and carrying them out. Both are included in every plan at no extra cost.
For a UAE reader the relevant point is that the commerce mechanics are solved and the AI is a productivity layer over them, not a reason to choose the platform. You pick Shopify because it runs the shop, and the AI reduces the admin that comes with it.

Best for
- Running an online shop without managing infrastructure
- Product descriptions and store copy generated where the product lives
- An assistant that acts on the store's own orders and customers
- Founders who need to be selling this month
- Scaling from a first product to a serious catalogue
Less suited to
It is a commerce platform first, so it is the wrong tool for a site that does not sell. A brochure site, a portfolio or a content-led publication all cost more and fit worse here than on a site builder.
The AI is also assistive rather than autonomous. Magic drafts copy that still needs an editor, and Sidekick works inside the store rather than across your other systems. Anyone wanting a single assistant spanning email, documents and the shop will still run a general one alongside.
Costs & data, in short
A monthly platform fee on a four-step ladder, cheaper billed annually, plus transaction economics that depend on which payment provider you use. The AI features are included on every plan at no extra cost, so they are not a line item to budget for; the platform fee starts whether or not anything sells.
The store holds customer records and order history, which is regulated data in most markets. The AI assistant operates on that same store data to answer questions and carry out instructions, so treat access to the admin as the control, and check what your own market requires of customer data before launching.
Plans
| Basic | $24per monthbilled annually; $32 per month if billed monthly |
|---|---|
| Grow | $69per monthbilled annually; $92 per month if billed monthly |
| Advanced | $299per monthbilled annually; $399 per month if billed monthly |
| Plus | from $2300per month |

Jobs
E-commerce & retail
Everything an online shop needs to take money is already here
Everything an online shop needs to take money is already here, which is why the AI features land differently than they would in a general tool: they operate on real products, real orders and real customers. Shopify Magic writes product descriptions from the attributes already on the product, so the copy is generated where the data is rather than pasted between tabs. Sidekick goes further and acts, building a customer segment, setting up a discount or answering a question about the store's own numbers. For a small retail team the effect is fewer trips to a separate tool for work that was always about the catalogue.
Example tasks
- Generate product descriptions from the attributes already entered
- Build a customer segment by describing it in a sentence
- Ask what sold and get the answer from the store's own data
- Draft store and collection copy in the admin
- Set up a discount by instruction rather than by form
Limits
It will not do your merchandising thinking or your market research, and it is not where you plan a brand. Sidekick works inside the store, so anything involving your other systems, or judgement about what to sell in the first place, sits outside it.
Compares
| vs | Pick Shopify when | Pick the other when |
|---|---|---|
| Wix | Shopify treats the shop as the product, with catalogue, checkout and order management as the platform rather than a feature bolted to a site builder | the website is the point and selling is a secondary part of it |
Founders & entrepreneurs
For a founder selling a physical or digital product
For a founder selling a physical or digital product, Shopify removes the entire infrastructure question: payments, checkout, tax handling, hosting and order management arrive working. That matters more than any AI feature, and it is why the AI is worth having here at all, because it removes the second bottleneck rather than the first. Magic drafts the twenty product descriptions nobody has time to write, and Sidekick answers the store questions a founder would otherwise learn to query manually. The cost is a monthly platform fee and transaction economics that only make sense if you are actually selling.
Example tasks
- Launch a first storefront with payments working
- Fill out an initial catalogue with generated descriptions
- Ask the store which products are actually moving
- Set up an email capture and first promotion
- Move an existing marketplace catalogue onto your own domain
Limits
It is a poor fit before you have something to sell. If you are still validating an idea, a landing page and a form cost nothing and answer the same question, and the monthly fee starts whether or not anyone buys.
Compares
| vs | Pick Shopify when | Pick the other when |
|---|---|---|
| Wix | Shopify is the specialist that assumes you are selling and prices accordingly | the first thing you need is a site and the shop can be a section of it |
Tasks
Marketing content & SEO
Store marketing is a volume problem before it is a creative one
Store marketing is a volume problem before it is a creative one: descriptions for every variant, subject lines for every send, meta text for every collection. Shopify Magic sits in the admin and generates that layer against the product data already there, which is the difference between drafting copy and drafting copy that knows the product's material, size and price. It is not a campaign platform and does not pretend to be one. The honest description is a competent first draft, produced in the place the work already happens, for the repetitive text a catalogue generates endlessly.
Example tasks
- Generate descriptions across a batch of new products
- Draft email subject lines for a promotion
- Write collection and category page copy
- Produce meta descriptions for product pages
- Rewrite an existing description in a different tone
Limits
Campaign concepts, brand voice and long-form content are outside it. A marketing team that needs a position, a narrative and a content calendar will do that work elsewhere and use Magic only for the catalogue text.
Compares
| vs | Pick Shopify when | Pick the other when |
|---|---|---|
| Jasper | Shopify Magic wins on proximity rather than craft, generating against product data inside the admin with nothing to integrate | brand voice, campaign structure and long-form content are the deliverable |
