Control runs out. Wix is built so that the common cases are easy, which means the uncommon ones are hard or impossible, and a site that outgrows the template model usually gets rebuilt elsewhere rather than extended.
It is also weak where a specialist is strong. Serious online retail wants a commerce platform, and a marketing team that publishes constantly will find the content model thin. Treat it as the fastest route to a good-enough site, not as the platform you scale on.
